The Do's & Don'ts

CAR ACCIDENTS - The Do's & Don't's

DO

  1. Make sure the injured, receive medical attention.
  2. Get the name address and insurance details of the other driver, (take photos)
  3. Get the name address and insurance details of the other vehicle’s owner, if different from the driver.
  4. Get the Registration Number of the other vehicles involved, including any Registration Number and Licence Number of trailer/s.
  5. Photograph the point of impact on the vehicles and on the road surface.
  6. Take a note of the precise location of the accident.
  7. Keep a note of the time and date of the accident.
  8. Fill in an “Incident Report Form”, for your insurance company. If you don’t, you risk your insurance company deciding not to insure you.
  9. If you complete an “Accident Claim Form”, you’ll lose your no claims bonus.
  10. Contact us, if  you want to make a claim.*

*In Personal Injuries or Contentious business, a Solicitor is prohibited from percentage charging.

YOU MUST

  1. Report the accident to the Gardai.
  2. Remain at the scene.
  3. Follow the Gardai’s instructions/requests/demands.
  4. If asked, give you name address and insurance details to the other driver.
  5. If asked, give the name address and insurance details of the owner of your vehicle to the other driver.

If you don’t, you leave yourself open to criminal conviction/s.

What you don’t have to do.

1. You don’t have to give a Statement to the Gardai
